Visit of the youth delegation of the Institute of USA and Canada RAS April 9-16, 2018 to the University of Maryland and the scientific centers of Washington.

On April 9-16, 2018, a scientific trip of the youth delegation of the Institute of the USA and Canada to the University of Maryland and the scientific centers of Washington took place.

The program of the visit to the University of Maryland included participation in seminars on various aspects of international security conducted by professors and professors of the University. Russian and American students and graduate students have jointly developed documents on two topical issues of contemporary international relations. The first Russian-American group presented a joint report containing recommendations on the settlement of the nuclear problem on the Korean peninsula. The result of the work of the second group was a joint report on possible measures to resolve problems related to the implementation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

As part of the trip to Washington, the following scientific and expert centers were held: the Russian-American Business Cooperation Council, the Russian American Foundation, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Georgetown University, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Hudson Institute. In addition, the delegation took part in a meeting with the staff of the newspaper The Washington Post and visited the Russian Embassy in the United States. A wide range of topics were discussed: the prospects for Russian-American relations, the future of the arms control regime, the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, in particular the nuclear issue of the Korean peninsula and the “nuclear deal” with Iran.
